Caring for your braids and weaves

  • Never apply shampoo directly to your braids. When washing your braids, dilute your shampoo with water to make it watery. Wet your braids with water and then pour the diluted shampoo on braids. Gently massage your scalp by going in between the parts. Be careful not to pull on the braids.
  • Use liquid leave-in conditioner instead of cream conditioner, which tends to get under the braids or weaves and cause damage to hair.
  • Use oil for scalp instead of grease or pomade. Pomade attracts dirt and can clog your pores.
  • The recommended length of time to leave your braids in is 2 - 3 months. Leaving braids in longer than 2 months may cause your hair to get matted and damaged.
  • To keep your edges from breaking, you will need to  visit me after 6 weeks for edge re-done. Then, you can keep your braids in for another 6 weeks. Your edges will thank you.
  • Please do not remove your sew in weaves or braids by yourself! I can guarantee that you will cut out your hair with the thread. And, you will get frustrated with the braids take-down because it will take you about 2 days to 1 week to finish. I will take out the weave for only $40 and the braids for $60. It will be the best money you've ever spent and you will still have all your hair.
  • Never pull your braids into tight ponytail. Doing that will cause the hair around your edges to break. Loose ponytail is better.
  • Before you go to bed, pull your braids in a low, loose ponytail and tie down with satin scarf, spandex cap, or bonnet.
  • Reduce the amount of heat and chemical that you apply to your hair. Both of these procedures break the bonds in your hair strands and will cause damage to your hair. Do not flat iron your hair everyday! You will loose your curl pattern and be back to square one.
  • Braid or weave your hair in-between relaxers to 1. Give your hair a rest from chemicals, color, / heat, and 2. To help your hair keep its elasticity and moisture.
